The Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) recently recognized Columbia Southern University (CSU) graduate Angela Perkins as its Outstanding Famous Graduate during the commission’s annual DEAC conference in Miami on April 7-8, 2019.
The annual conference features an awards ceremony that recognizes individuals and outstanding graduates from the DEAC’s accredited educational organizations. CSU graduate Angela Perkins was among the outstanding famous graduates honored based on contributions to their career fields, public interests served and how they have used their degrees to advance their personal and professional lives. CSU President Ken Styron presented the award to Perkins at the conference.
Perkins, who resides in the Cincinnati, Ohio area and gained fame as a contestant on the CBS reality show, “Survivor: Ghost Island,” earned her MBA with a concentration in human resource management from CSU in 2012.
“I am humble, but at the same time incredibly proud to be nominated for the Outstanding Famous Graduate,” she said. “Columbia Southern University has been a huge part of my life. I attribute my being selected as a contestant on the CBS reality show ‘Survivor: Ghost Island’ season 36 to partly my CSU achievement. Adding CSU to my application/resume was a huge part of why I was casted.”
The Army veteran and mother of two served for more than 21 years before retiring as a captain. She served in a transportation unit and in a psychological operations battalion as an executive officer where she was the only female officer.
