Christopher Mills
The Chatham County (Georgia) Fire Department has announced the promotion of Christopher Mills to deputy chief of support services. Mills has been active in the fire service since 2003 and has served in many roles, including firefighter, EMT, paramedic, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and district chief. He earned an associate degree in fire science from CSU.
Antwon Bernard Womack
Antwon Bernard Womack has secured the District 8 seat with the Birmingham Board of Education and works as a freelance paralegal. Upon being elected, he has become the first openly gay Black man to hold public office in Alabama. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from CSU in 2024.
Terrion Thurman
The Georgia Department of Corrections has appointed Terrion Thurman to deputy warden of care and treatment at the Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison (GDCP). She brings extensive experience from various roles in offender care and will oversee educational programs, health services, library services, counseling, recreational services, and notably, the mental health services at this special mission facility. She is a CSU graduate.
Iziah Carthens
Iziah Carthens has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. He has served over 25 years of honorable service in the United States Army, followed by civilian roles in support of military operations. He is a proud military veteran, missile maintenance expert and successful small business leader. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from CSU in 2020.
Robert Heaton
The Southern Pines (North Carolina) Police Department has announced the promotion of Robert Heaton to the rank of deputy chief. Heaton is a 25-year law enforcement veteran and has served 14 years with the department. He is a graduate of the 294th session of the FBI National Academy and has completed the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association Supervisory Institute, Command Institute and Executive Institute. He received a master’s degree in criminal justice administration from CSU.
Cory Godwin
Cory Godwin has been appointed to the Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified Enterprises, Inc. Board of Directors. He is currently the jail services coordinator for the Florida Sheriffs Association and previously served as the chief deputy tax collector for Bay and Walton Counties. He was also an assistant warden for the Florida Department of Corrections. He is a CSU graduate.
Gerard T. Smith
The Dover (Massachusetts) Fire Department has appointed Gerard T. Smith to the rank of fire chief. He previously served as a firefighter and paramedic with the Westwood Fire Department for 24 years, including seven years as lieutenant. In addition, he was that department’s first paramedic hire and received the department’s Medal of Valor. He earned an associate degree in fire science from CSU.
Janel Taylor
American Banker magazine has included Janel Taylor to the publication’s 2025 Most Powerful Women in Banking Next list. Taylor is employed with Region’s Bank in Alabama and is the senior vice president in the human resources division. She is a key leader within the bank’s Learning and Development group, where she manages the bank’s Emerging Talent Program, which was created to train and develop current college students and recent college graduates as they begin to build a career with Regions. She received her MBA from CSU.
Jason Blake
The Auburn (Washington) Police Department (APD) has announced the promotion of Jason Blake to patrol commander. He joined the APD in 2023 and has held previous roles with the city of Enumclaw as a dispatcher, a reserve police officer and a full-time officer. Blake earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from CSU.
