Take 5 with Librarian Sara Goroski

April 19-25 is National Library Week, a time to recognize the vital roles librarians and library workers play in their local communities. In honor of National Library Week, we asked Sara Goroski to share more about her role as a distance and instruction librarian, and what she loves most about her career:

  1. Can you describe your role at CSU?
I am a distance and instruction librarian. Some of the main things I do include helping students with research questions, presenting live webinars on a variety of topics, and creating video tutorials and research guides. There are also a lot of behind-the-scenes projects. I also work with faculty in a variety of ways to support students.
  2. What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really enjoy connecting and working with students. I also work with a really great team of librarians.
  3. What advice would you give to a CSU student?
The most important thing I want students to know is that it’s okay to ask for help. There are many resources and people who are genuinely happy to support your success. Learning is a journey, and feeling comfortable asking questions is an essential part of finding the right answers.
  4. What is your favorite CSU memory or moment?
It’s really hard to pick one specific memory. Many of my favorite memories come from interactions with students. Helping them navigate the library, find the right information and gain confidence in their research skills is always deeply rewarding.
  5. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy reading (I’m a librarian, after all!), doing jigsaw puzzles, spending time in the backyard and road trips to National Parks.
