Chad Johnston
The Portland Fire Department has appointed Chad Johnston as the new fire chief. Johnston has served with the department for 25 years after transferring from Saco Fire Department in 1999. “I’ve known this is what I wanted to do since a very young age,” he said. “We have been on a solid forward path under the past chief’s direction. We absolutely expect to continue.” He is expected to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in fire administration from CSU in 2025.
Maria Pavithra Benita Mohan
Maria Pavithra Benita Mohan has been recognized for her work in the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning into traditional banking systems. She currently works as a lead management consultant with the fintech company Infosys, specializing in core banking products and system transformation. “AI adoption isn’t a one-and-done project,” she said. “It’s an ongoing process that requires involvement from compliance, legal and fraud prevention teams to mitigate risks.” Mohan received her MBA in information technology from CSU.
James Langborg
James Langborg is one of two finalists to be considered for the position of Jackson city administrator in Minnesota. He has served as the fire chief for the Greenfield Fire Department for more than six years and holds a bachelor’s degree in fire administration from CSU.
Chad Hannum
Chad Hannum has been hired as the new fire chief for the Fort Madison Fire Department. He has served with the department since March 2014 and will take over the role on May 1, 2025. “I’m truly honored to be named the next fire chief of the Fort Madison Fire Department,” he said. “I look forward to working with each one of you and moving the community forward.” He is expected to receive a bachelor’s degree in fire administration and fire investigations from CSU in 2025.
Curtiss Schoen
The Brenham Police Department has appointed Curtiss Schoen as the new assistant police chief. He has served in the department for 18 years within multiple divisions, including negotiations team, a member of the SWAT team and head of the drone unit. Schoen brings his technology expertise to the department to help fight crime. “You can do so much with technology, and it helps lead [investigations] to where you want to be to solve the crime,” he said. He received an associate degree in cybersecurity and is expected to receive his bachelor’s degree in information systems from CSU.
Joshua DeFelice
The Acton Fire Department has appointed Joshua DeFelice to lieutenant. He has worked with Acton Fire for 20 years and also manages the department’s ground ladder division, ensuring the equipment is maintained and tested to the required standards. DeFelice received a bachelor’s degree in fire administration from CSU.
Kevin Swope
Kevin Swope has been named the new police chief with the South Haven Police Department and officially took over the role on Jan.6, 2025. Swope has 26 years of experience in law enforcement and was formerly the police chief with the Dearborn Heights Police Department. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from CSU.
Charvetz Scott
Charvetz Scott has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who for his expertise in occupational safety and health. He has over two decades of experience, including his current role as a safety manager for the U.S. Department of Defense. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated dedication, leadership and an unwavering commitment to safety. Scott received a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health and an MBA in business administration from CSU.
James Conner
The Titus Volunteer Fire Department announced the appointment of a new fire chief. James Conner brings 21 years of experience in public safety and is passionate about advancing fire service operations, fostering teamwork and prioritizing the safety and well-being of the Titus community. He is a 2018 CSU graduate.
