Dear students and alumni,
On the Alabama Gulf Coast, we are optimistic that the old saying “April showers bring May flowers” is true. While we have seen many storms this month, I am thankful for our safety and the warm weather that is sure to follow. I hope wherever you are located, you make it safely through the weather conditions this spring season delivers. Despite the rain, 2022 is looking bright so far as many exciting things are happening at Columbia Southern University.
In January, CSU launched a new degree program. The Associate of Science degree in military studies is designed to develop the analytical, critical-thinking, creative-thinking and decision-making skills of current and future military service members. If you are interested in a career field such as homeland security, law enforcement or emergency management, consider adding it on to your current program of study.
In February we observed Black History Month by proudly recognizing our Black students, alumni and faculty whose dedication to their communities and professions are making an impact now and for future generations. I could not be prouder of the many achievements these men and women have accomplished.
Last month, CSU celebrated Women’s History Month and praised the contributions and achievements women have made over the course of American history, culture and community. Each year I am more amazed by the women of CSU and the success you all have earned. Also in March, CSU was recognized by the Gulf Shores Fire Rescue for our support in the community. What an honor to play a part in our community and see our local students and alumni be celebrated as well.
As we are well into April, I want to remind students of the scholarship opportunities we have available for 2022. Annual scholarships are offered to students in fields such as safety and emergency medical services, criminal justice and more. If you are an alumnus thinking of going back to earn your next degree, there is a scholarship opportunity for you as well. To see which CSU scholarships are available for you, visit ColumbiaSouthern.edu/Scholarships.
As always, thank you for being a valuable member of the CSU family. I am grateful for each of you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ken Styron
