Christopher Johnson | Chief Joseph L. Jones Scholarship
Virginia firefighter Christopher Johnson is the recipient of the Columbia Southern Education Group Chief Joseph L. Jones Scholarship. This scholarship was created in partnership with the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters (IABPFF). Johnson, a nationally registered paramedic, serves on the Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County executive board and is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

With his scholarship, he plans to pursue his master’s in public health with a concentration in community health education and will continue on his career path toward becoming a fire officer.

 

Laura Rivas | Reach Scholarship
Laura Rivas of Westminster, California, is the recipient of the Columbia Southern Education Group Reach Scholarship, a scholarship that was created in partnership with Delta Air Lines, Inc. A Delta employee, Rivas hopes to become a field service manager with the company within five years.

“This scholarship will not only change my life but my entire family’s. This is literally the American dream being granted to us,” she said. “Earning a master’s in project management will provide crucial knowledge of the many aspects of project planning. From research to execution, I can contribute to the success of Delta. I know for sure I want to keep climbing with Delta.”

With this scholarship, Rivas will pursue a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in project management.
