President’s Message | August 2022

Dear students and alumni,

I hope this message finds you well as we begin preparation for what is one of the most exciting times of the year at CSU. That’s right, graduation is just around the corner!

This October, it is my joy to welcome graduates and their families to beautiful Orange Beach, Alabama, to the CSU fall commencement ceremony. It is always a good time when the Knight family gets together. It is especially rewarding to spend time with our graduates who have worked hard, some for decades, to earn their diploma. Commencement will take place on Oct. 21, 2022. We are thrilled to welcome award-winning professor, journalist and CEO, Dr. Rick Rigsby, as our keynote speaker. You may find all the details about commencement on our website.

Dr. Rigsby is not the only award-winner in our midst. CSU has recently recognized many students and alumni for their remarkable contributions to their communities. Sarah McCurdy of Calgary, Alberta, was named Outstanding Safety Professional of the Year. Duane Nieves of Arendtsville, Pennsylvania, is the recipient of the Outstanding Emergency Medical Services Professional of the Year. The Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) recently recognized Columbia Southern University graduate Fred Kasper of Manchester, Tennessee, as its Outstanding Graduate. These recipients have done an outstanding job at exemplifying what it means to be a CSU Knight.

Speaking of outstanding professionals, here at CSU, we pride ourselves on aligning our students’ academic and professional needs. Our new degree program, the Master of Science in fire executive leadership, does just that. The program emphasizes the development of an innovative leader within the fields of fire and other related emergency services. I, for one, cannot wait to see the goals that will be reached with this new program.

Whether you are just starting your college journey, preparing to toss your cap at commencement or are a proud CSU alumnus, we are invested in your academic and career success. It is my greatest honor to serve as president and watch you all achieve greatness. Speaking on behalf of us all at CSU, we are in your corner, cheering you on.

Sincerely,
Dr. Ken Styron
