A’Leah Burrell
A’Leah Burrell of Fayetteville, Georgia, was recently named Miss Northwest Georgia. She has participated in the Miss America Organization since she was 10 years old. Burrell, who earned her bachelor’s in business administration from CSU, owns a clothing store called “Lea Bee Boutique.”

Ken Harrison
Ken Harrison was recently named fire chief for the Apple Valley Fire Protection District. Harrison spent the last 25 years with the Orange County Fire Authority. His last assignment was a nearly eight-year stint as battalion chief, and aircraft rescue and firefighting program manager for the city of Irvine and John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana. Harrison earned his master’s degree in organizational leadership from CSU.

Ron Snowberger
Fire Chief Ron Snowberger has been named city manager of Brooksville, Florida. Snowberger holds a degree in fire science from Columbia Southern University and is pursuing a graduate degree in public administration.

Jay Rendon
Jay Rendon was recently sworn in as the Davison Township chief of police in Davison, Michigan. Rendon has worked with the Davison Township Police Department for 26 years. Rendon earned his master’s degree in criminal justice from Columbia Southern University, attended the Eastern Michigan University School of Police Staff and Command and attended the FBI National Academy session 273.

Antonio Burton
Antonio Burton of Augusta, Georgia, was recently sworn in as the city’s new fire chief and emergency management director. Burton enters the role with more than 30 years of professional firefighting experience. He recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in business.

Don Justus
Don Justus has been named interim head coach for the University of Hartford’s softball team, the Hawks. Justus has spent the past two seasons with the Hawks, joining the coaching staff as an assistant prior to the 2020 campaign. Justus graduated from Columbia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in business sports management.

Scott Owen
Marshfield Fire & Rescue Chief Scott Owen is celebrating 25 years with the city of Marshfield, Wisconsin. He began his career with the city in 1996 as a firefighter/EMT. Owen earned his Bachelor of Science in fire science from Columbia Southern University.

Shane Darwick
Frederick, Maryland’s assistant Chief M. Shane Darwick has been appointed Frederick County’s Director of Fire Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services. Darwick joined Frederick County in 2019, bringing 47 years of experience in career and volunteer fire and rescue services. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in fire science from CSU.

John J. Hodgens
John J. Hodgens was recently named chief of fire operations for the New York City Fire Department. Hodgens joined the Department in 1986. He studied at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Columbia Southern University, receiving Bachelor of Applied Science degree in fire science and emergency management.
