How CSU Graduate Robert Giles Found Success After Serving His Country

Robert Giles always wanted to join the Army. Serving his country was one of the hardest experiences for Robert, yet also the most fulfilling. After his service, he experienced the hardest challenge yet: transitioning back into civilian life.

“It’s one of those things where you think ‘oh I can’t wait to get out,’ but it’s a lot harder than you think,” he said. “Trying to find my place was really hard. I didn’t feel like I had a whole lot of purpose, and it wasn’t what I expected.”

Feeling stuck in a desk job after returning home, Robert’s wife encouraged him to enroll at CSU. To his surprise, his former transcripts and EMS certifications meant he transferred in as a senior. This allowed him to earn a bachelor’s degree in fire administration in just a year.

“CSU has set me up for success because I know that school is not something to be scared of,” he said. “It’s something to take seriously but it’s not something to be scared of. It’s going to be hard but it’s absolutely worth it in the end.”

Watch Robert’s story to see how the decision to enroll at CSU gave him the tools needed to change careers and find success.
