Lisa Camp, a Columbia Southern University financial aid specialist, has been named the winner of the university’s second-annual Knight in Shining Armor Award.
This prestigious award is presented to an outstanding staff member who demonstrates a positive attitude, strong work ethic and outstanding performance, while also exemplifying CSU core values: exceptional service, relationships, flexibility, innovation, humility and excellence.
“Thank you for this amazing honor,” said Lisa. “I am truly blessed to work with each one of you daily. I absolutely love what we do and truly believe we have a positive impact on all our students.”
Lisa began working for CSU upon retiring from the military after 30 years of service. It was a difficult transition into the civilian lifestyle; however, CSU’s similar core values to the military intrigued her interest in applying at the university.
“What sparked my interest was how you cared for a population of folks (once military always military) that meant the world to me,” she said. “I will always be “Chief Camp,” as the military is engrained deep in my soul. I brought what I learned over the years with me. You cannot complete a mission without caring for the people performing it. You cannot serve a population of people unless you care about the mission.”
Lisa is committed to her latest mission: helping students in the Office of Financial Aid.
“It took me a lot of years to hone my skills, as financial aid was not my background,” she said. “But you took a chance on me and allowed me grace to learn. Our focus has always been helping our students achieve the best version of themselves through education. I am blessed to be part of this process. Continue to do what we do and watch our students grow and blossom.”
