How CSU Graduate Lurri Schoenrock Turned Tragedy Into Positive Change (Video)

Columbia Southern University graduate Lurri Schoenrock wakes up each day making a difference. However, losing her son in a tragic accident is her motivation and what drives her.

“My employees know why I do safety and why I do care about them,” she said. “It’s personal to me and I want them to go home every day to their families.”

Lurri’s son was killed when he fell asleep driving home after being overworked, compelling Lurri to pursue a degree within the occupational safety and health field. Her resilience, perseverance and dedication are unmatched in making a positive change in safety, all in the name of her late son.

Lurri holds a master’s degree in occupational safety and health and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from CSU.

“If I help one person not have to go through what we’ve been through, then I’ve done my job,” she said. “You can take your tragedy and do something with it.”

Watch Lurri’s story to see how the decision to enroll at CSU helped her honor her son and improve safety in the workplace.
