Columbia Southern University Donates Canned Goods to Turkey Take-Out Food Drive

Columbia Southern University (CSU) was honored to participate in the 15th annual Turkey Take-Out food drive for Thanksgiving. Last year Turkey Take-Out fed over 290 families in our local community, with donations consisting of canned goods and non-perishable items for those in need.

This year, CSU employees collected over 300 items of food to be given to families to help provide meals for their loved ones this Thanksgiving.

“Every item collected goes back directly into the community here in the Foley and Orange Beach, Alabama areas,” said CSU Director of Community and Alumni Relations Mimi Henning. “This is one of my favorite traditions here at CSU each holiday season, and it means so much to us to be able to give back to the community that’s given so much to us.”

Donations are dropped off at Anchor Point Church in Foley, where all the food collected is sorted and divided up in preparation for deliveries throughout Foley, Seminole and Lillian.

“We have been doing this now for 15 years, and it’s Thanksgiving delivered,” said Melody Gardner, events and outreach director at Anchor Point. “We get to package Thanksgiving meals, everything that the family needs and deliver it right to their household. We do this the weekend before Thanksgiving now, and it’s just an incredible time to be able to live in our community.”

Gardner added that they have additional locations that handles the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach areas.

“This year we are able to serve over 330 families all across Baldwin County, so it is truly an incredible time,” Gardner said. “We have such an amazing outpouring of donations this year, Columbia Southern being one great donor this year of canned goods. All of these canned goods are going to be divided, and they’re just extras beyond the Thanksgiving meal to stock their pantries this year.”

Turkey Take-Out was established to provide families with food during Thanksgiving and is a community partnership of local businesses, churches and organizations.
