Take 5 With CSU Admissions Advisor Joshua SantaCruz

As an admissions advisor, Joshua SantaCruz works to build relationships and learn more about prospective students so that he can guide them through the application process. He plays a key role in recruitment, maintaining communication with students and ensuring a smooth transition from a prospective student to an applicant.

We asked Joshua to share more about himself and what he loves most about his career:

  1. What do you enjoy most about your job? I love that I have the opportunity to help students find the right path for their future and knowing I could be the best conversation that had that day. Guiding them through the admissions process, answering their questions and seeing them succeed in reaching their educational goals brings me a since of fulfillment knowing they are accomplishing something they may have thought they would never be able to do. The interactions with students and the ability to make a positive impact on their lives is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job and something I love!

  1. What is your favorite CSU memory or moment? Being able to hang out and build connections while working in the office is something that I’ve enjoyed so much and will never forget.

  1. Considering your job, what advice would you give to a CSU student? I would advise a CSU student to take full advantage of the resources that we provide. Starting school can be intimidating and starting online school can feel even more intimidating, but we have so many recourses that want to help our students succeed such as academic advising, career services and tutoring centers. I would encourage them to reach out to these resources to gain comfortability for when they will actually need help in the future. Also, build connections with faculty and peers. This can enhance their college experience and open up opportunities for future careers.

  1. As a current CSU student, what program are you studying and why? I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership. I have always wanted to get a master’s degree since I was a kid. However, I think that this program is an excellent fit, given my role in admissions, as it will strengthen my leadership skills and prepare me to take on more strategic responsibilities within CSU and even outside it in the future.

  1. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? In my spare time, I love hanging out with my family. My wife and I recently bought a house and we have been enjoying going on walks with our 10-month-old baby boy and dog. I also enjoy playing competitive pickleball with my friends and playing video games. These activities allow me to stay active, connect with loved ones and unwind through friendly/not so friendly competition.
