Michael Beard never thought he would see the day that he would become a college graduate. While working oversees as a military contractor, Michael was flying from the Bagram Air Force base to Jalalabad when he was hit by an AK-47 round. While in recovery, Michael began working on his degree.
“I think going back to school at Columbia Southern helped me heal,” he said.
As an adult learner, Michael overcame any doubt brought on by others and himself that he wouldn’t be able to finish his degree. Now as a college graduate with a degree in business administration concentrating in hospitality and tourism, Michael accomplished the one thing never thought he could.
“When I look back on the school, I just have a lot of joy,” he said. “This school changed my life as far as making me feel I could do better and be better.”
Watch Michael’s story to see how he pushed through a life-altering injury and self-doubt to become a proud CSU alumnus.
