President’s Message – Commencement Preparation

Dear Students and Alumni,

Although we are only in the middle of summer, we are hard at work planning the fall commencement ceremony!

Commencement Ceremony
On Oct. 28, we will be gathering at the Orange Beach Event Center to present diplomas to more than 700 graduates in front of more than 3,000 guests. We are excited to announce that this year’s keynote speaker is broadcast journalist and TV host of “What Would You Do?” John Quinones! Additionally, we will be having our alumni social event the evening of Oct. 27 at the Gulf State Park Pavilion beside the beautiful Gulf of Mexico sunset. You can find more information and registration details here.

Commencement Webinar
Our academic advisors will be hosting a live webinar about the commencement ceremony and the graduation process on Thursday, July 28 at 6p.m. CST. The webinar will also be recorded and uploaded to the myCSU Student Portal for anyone who missed it. More information can be found in this article.

Robert G. Mayes Memorial Scholarship
If you have been considering returning to CSU for a master’s degree, you might be interested in the Robert G. Mayes Memorial Scholarship. This $10,000 scholarship is in honor of our founder, my father, and is awarded annually to a CSU alumnus. The application deadline is July 31.  You can find more information on this and other CSU scholarships on our website.

CSU Travels to Atlanta and Phoenix
It was a great pleasure for CSU team members to be at the American Society of Safety Engineers 2016 conference in Atlanta where we saw more than 80 students and alumni at our booth and the social event at Taco Mac. We also held a student and alumni social event in Phoenix, Arizona, and – for the first time at one of our events – offered resume reviews with a career development counselor. It was great to see so many of you take advantage of this opportunity. Keep in mind that you can always make an appointment to speak to a career development counselor no matter where you are in the world.

Mid-States Fire Conference
This month CSU will present the Mid-States Fire Conference on July 28-29 at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Firefighters and fire officers are encouraged to attend this compelling and career-building event to learn a great deal about leadership. Read more about this conference and the featured topics here.

God bless,

Robert Mayes

President
