I am very excited about the launch of the new private Facebook Schools App that was released to students and alumni last month. So far, we have more than 4,500 active participants in the community!
The Schools App is a private social network hosted as a Facebook application. The community is a user-friendly environment that links a student’s personal Facebook account with CSU’s community allowing him/her to safely and securely interact with other students at CSU about various topics while still retaining their privacy through the application’s security options. Inside the application there are “communities” where students can chat, get to know each other and network.
The social environment is managed by CSU’s newly formed Student and Alumni Engagement Department. The most rapidly growing and popular communities include “Class of 2015” and “Occupational Safety and Health” which are drawing the most students.
I encourage you to join the Schools App and connect with your fellow students. To access the community, please visit facebook.columbiasouthern.edu. If your Facebook account uses the same email address as your student record, you will already have access to the community. If your Facebook account uses a different email address, you will need to request to join.
In other news, CSU’s Graduation date for 2014 is set for Friday, Oct. 24 in Orange Beach, Ala., and registration is open now.
It is my privilege to announce that we will have retired Lt. Col. Oliver North as our keynote speaker for this year’s ceremonies. North is a combat decorated U.S. Marine, a No. 1 best-selling author, the founder of a small business, an inventor with three U.S. patents, a syndicated columnist, and the host of “War Stories” on Fox News Channel. It will truly be a memorable event.
As always, thank you for choosing to be a part of the CSU Family.
