Certificate Program Addresses Human Trafficking in the U.S.

Human trafficking targets thousands of men, women and children in the U.S. and abroad.

In 2016, human trafficking in the United States rose 35.7 percent from the previous year, according to data from the National Human Trafficking Hotline, which fielded 26,727 calls in 2016. California was the No. 1 state, followed by Texas and Florida. All three states reported an increase in trafficking crimes.

To aid in the fight against this crime, the Continuing Education Department at CSU has launched its first course in its new CEU certificate program, Human Trafficking Investigation.

Through a partnership with the Human Trafficking Investigations and Training Institute (HTITI), CSU is able to offer this unique CEU certificate to educate students on this global issue. This program provides the knowledge necessary to work cohesively toward recognizing human trafficking issues, freeing victims of human trafficking.

This CEU certificate program contains three courses, which include:

  • CE 1202: Human Trafficking Awareness (now available)
  • CE 1203: The United States’ Response to Human Trafficking (available soon)
  • CE 1204: Law Enforcement Investigations of Human Trafficking Crimes (in development)

These courses can be taken separately or collectively as part of the CEU certificate program. Students will earn continuing education units (CEUs) for each course they complete and will be awarded a certificate of completion that lists the number of CEUs earned for each course. Upon completion of all three courses in this certificate program, students will earn a certificate that shows successful completion of the Human Trafficking Investigation CEU certificate.

Students do not earn college credit through this CEU certificate program. Transfer credit is possible into a degree program at CSU but is not guaranteed. Please consult with a CSU advisor to determine eligibility.

Course Cost: $325 per course ($975 total for entire HTI CEU certificate

Course Length: This course is a 10-week, self-paced, open enrollment course. Once students complete each assignment in the course with a 70 percent or higher, they will receive a certificate of completion that will list the CEUs earned.
