Dear students and alumni,
I hope your September has started off well. Even though we are in the very warm South, we have already noticed a change in the weather and some cooler temperatures.
On August 31, I was humbled to have the opportunity to attend a small breakfast meeting with U.S. Dept. of Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos. This meeting was set up by our local Congressman, Bradley Byrne, for local university presidents. At the meeting, I was able to share about Columbia Southern University and the students we serve. I honestly never imagined I would have had this chance.
CSU representatives will be traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana, to host a student and alumni networking social on September 25. This event will be in conjunction with the National Safety Council conference, so we hope to see not only those Knights who live around Indianapolis, but those who are visiting for the conference, as well. These events are always a great time for our students and alumni to connect with one another, network and have an opportunity to meet members of the CSU team.
Recently, our continuing education department announced our continued partnership with Distinctive HR to offer our students the PHR and SPHR exam prep courses. This is a compilation of three webinar series, each lasting 12 weeks. The first series of the fall session begins September 8. These interactive webinar courses are great for any of our human resources students who are looking forward to taking the PHR or SPHR exams.
As we all know, Texas has seen extreme devastation with Hurricane Harvey. More recently, many students and alumni have been affected by Hurricane Irma in Florida. If you have been affected by either of these storms, know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
If you are actively enrolled in a CSU degree program and have extenuating circumstances surrounding the disaster in Texas or are being affected by Hurricane Irma, please feel free to contact your academic advisor or a member of our support staff at (877) 323-4471 or Students@ColumbiaSouthern.edu. We will accommodate your situation any way we can.
CSU is serving as a collection point for needed items to be sent to the affected areas in Texas and Florida in coordination with Somebody Cares. If you would like to assist those in need in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, please consider donating to Somebody Cares or another charity that is providing relief efforts.
We will continue to pray and do what we can for those affected by these disasters.
Thank you all for being a part of the CSU family.
God Bless,
Robert Mayes
