Dear students and alumni,
It is hard to believe that we are already in August and fall is right around the corner. For many, this time of year is a time to jump back into school after a well-deserved summer break. Whether you have continually taken courses or allowed yourself some time off, it is wise to focus on what is ahead of you and plan your next steps in order to achieve your goals. Your academic advisor and other CSU representatives are always here to provide assistance and guidance when you need it.
As you look forward to the next courses you plan to take, consider signing up for Easy Enroll to making things a little easier on yourself. Guided by your personal degree advisement plan, Easy Enroll can automatically enroll you in your next courses. Just this year, almost 6,000 students have already taken advantage of this program in order to stay on track with their academic plan and to spend less time logging in and submitting enrollments after each course. To sign up, log into your MyCSU student portal and go to the My Account page. You can change your Easy Enroll settings at any time and you receive email notices well in advance before any enrollment is processed.
Last month, I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of the Career Resource Center (CRC) in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This is an endeavor made possible by CSU’s parent company, Columbia Southern Education Group, and the Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program. The CRC provides transitioning service members, veterans and family members with a bridge from military to civilian employment and careers. This is one way we can give back to military members and veterans that have for so long made CSU a choice institution. You can learn more about the Fort Bragg CRC here.
Columbia Southern University and our sister school, Waldorf University, will once again be hosting The Excellence in Higher Education virtual conference September 25 through 27. This conference showcases compelling presentations and panel discussions from faculty and staff in order to inform educators about proven practices, push the leading edge of their profession and motivate the pursuit of creating a culture of excellence in higher education. You can read more about The Excellence in Higher Education conference on our website.
Our Commencement activities are still a few months away but we are all busy getting everything ready to meet and celebrate our graduates in October. This is always such a special time to have our graduates and their families on campus for Open House on October 26th. Our Commencement ceremony will be held on October 27th at the Foley Event Center located beside the new OWA shopping and amusement park complex. This new event center will allow us to hold one large ceremony instead of two, as we have done in the past. I am confident that this change will make this one of our best Commencement ceremonies yet. You can read more about it here.
This “back to school” season can be a busy one for families. My two daughters will start back to school this month and those early mornings getting ready for school will be a little crazy. It is a season change that bring with it good things and a little more routine that we seem to all appreciate. I wish you the best in this new season that is about to begin.
God Bless,
Robert Mayes
