Summertime Learning

Dear students and alumni,

I hope all of you are enjoying your summer thus far and were able to celebrate Independence Day. Every July, I find myself reminded of what a blessing it is to live in this great country.

CSU employees make wreaths at Summer Camp

At CSU, we work to spice up summer a little on campus by offering the CSU Summer Camp series. Employees have the opportunity to teach a class to their colleagues on a topic on which they are subject matter experts. We have classes ranging from sushi making, pallet creations and social media training, to yoga and mastering Microsoft Excel. It is a great opportunity for our employees to get together and continue learning.

Jennifer Coljeski

I am happy to announce that we have recently awarded the Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship to Jennifer Coljeski, whose dream is to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology and continue on to earn her master’s degree. She is currently employed by the City of Orlando Fire Department and her husband is also a CSU student.

Jennifer states, “This has been a dream of mine for ten years and I would be grateful to be a recipient of such a noble scholarship that gives appreciation to those behind the badge.”

We are excited to support Jennifer and all students pursuing their dream of a college education. Two upcoming scholarships include the Robert G. Mayes Scholarship, which is in honor of my father. This scholarship closes on July 31. The second is the National Volunteer Fire Scholarship, which closes September 15th. You can view all CSU Scholarship opportunities here.

Last month, we traveled to Denver, Colorado for the annual American Society of Safety Engineers conference. We were thrilled to see several hundred students and alumni at our booth. We also held a social event one evening during the conference where almost 100 students, alumni, faculty and staff gathered to socialize, network and make connections with their fellow Knights! There is nothing we enjoy more than meeting you, hearing your CSU story and watching you share it with one another.

This month, the CSU team is headed to Atlanta, Georgia to visit our Learning Partners and host a social event in partnership with the CSU Atlanta Alumni Chapter. If you are in the area on July 20th, please join CSU staff and faculty at Industry Tavern from 6-8 p.m. for some fellowship with your classmates! You can find more details here.

Wherever your work or vacation takes you this month, please have a safe and fun time.

God Bless,

Robert Mayes
President
