Enjoy the Celebrations of Spring

Dear Students and Alumni,

Heidi DrakeOn the Alabama Gulf Coast, it is spring break season and we have a lot of visitors in town. While it is a little colder than most would like, we have to be thankful we are not experiencing the winter storms that some of you are dealing with. I hope you all make it through these weather events without issue.

While we love celebrating accomplishments here on campus, nothing beats a success story from a student or alumnus. Two years ago, our Career Services team began working with Heidi Drake, a graduate of our MBA program. Heidi was eager to get into her dream career, despite only having experience in other fields. Through hard work and many sessions with our career development counselors, Heidi was able to realize her dream and has recently secured  her ideal job. We are so proud of her relentless spirit and accomplishments! You can read more about Heidi and her story here.

Another accomplishment I am proud to recognize is the following CSU degree programs have renewed alignment with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)’s HR curriculum guidebook and templates: BS in Business Administration/Concentration in Human Resource Management, BS in Human Resource Management, MBA/Concentration in Human Resource Management. Throughout the world, 442 programs in 332 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. We are very proud to continue to be a university whose programs follow these standards. For more information about any of our HR related programs, contact your Academic Advisor.

Next month, we are lFDIC 201620160420_131954_resized_1 (2)ooking forward to attending the Fire Department Instructor’s Conference (FDIC) April 24-29 at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium. If you happen to be attending the conference, please stop by our booth and say hello! This is one of our favorite conferences to attend because we have the opportunity to meet and connect with so many of our students and alumni. We love to hear how you are doing! (pic)

Inside the walls of CSU, we mostly focus on serving you, the student and alumni, and how we can do that better. But to do that well, we also focus on organizational health and the health of our faculty and staff. Our Human Resources department launched a new initiative to help employees track their food, exercise, sleep, water intake and other health indicators. We are even tying rewards to this program, such as winning a FitBit and time off! We have already seen great success and I want to give a special shout-out to one employee, Hope, who works in our shipping and receiving department. She has been dedicated to this new challenge. Not only has she lost 11 pounds but has also had a major decrease in blood sugar and no longer needs diabetes medication. We look forward to many more success stories like this!

In closing, I wish you all the best this March. For those of you who will be traveling or taking time off for spring break, have a great time. As always, we are here to support you in any way we can.

God bless,
Robert Mayes
