St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow and we will be breaking out the green ties, shirts, skirts, socks, etc. in an effort to avoid the dreaded “I’m gonna pinch you!”
Of course, green has been associated with Ireland since at least the 1640s, when the green harp flag was first used. Green ribbons, shamrocks and other items have been incorporated St. Patrick’s Day festivities since the 1680s.
But what does the color green really mean?
Theorists say it is the color of growth, nature, prosperity and vitality. As a combination of yellow and blue, green symbolizes the optimism of yellow and the emotional calm of blue. Green is also seen as the color of abundance and of finance and wealth.
While it is all these things, green is also a true representation of spring. A time when fragrant flowers and leafy trees start to awaken and bloom. Spring is truly a time of rebirth and renewal.
As plants enjoy a rebirth, so do we. Spring is a time for newness in our lives. A new car, a new house, a new job… and even a new life!
