Congrats to CSU Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship winner Aimee Oliver who is eager to spread her wings and learn more about criminal justice.
“My ultimate goal is to have such a broad education and working knowledge [of criminal justice] that I can become one of the greatest assets in my region. I would love to build a legacy that my parents, children and husband can be proud of,” said Oliver, a police officer in Duluth, Ga.
The university’s Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship honors the spouses and children of active-duty public safety personnel (firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs and dispatchers) and National Guard and military men and women. Each award date, one scholarship will be awarded to the spouse or child of a National Guard or active military man or woman and one will be awarded to the spouse or child of a public safety personnel.
The scholarship will cover up to $12,600 in one online degree program. The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition for up to three years or until the completion of the selected online degree program, whichever comes first.
Oliver is the wife of Lt. Tyrone Oliver of the Brookhaven (Ga.) Police Department and plans to use the award to get an associate degree in criminal justice. She wants to use her education to advance her career and perhaps join a task force or special operations in cooperation with the FBI.
Oliver is determined and eager. “Having something to show for it, an accomplishment other than solved cases and missed baseball games would definitely make this stressful lifestyle worthwhile.”
