CSU is proud to honor our August Partner of the Month: City of Atlanta Fire Rescue Department.
The Atlanta Fire Rescue team was recently presented the award by CSU staff at a CSU student and alumni reception at the Georgia Aquarium.
Each month, CSU honors and celebrates a learning partner that has gone above and beyond to promote continuing education within their teams and departments.
Deputy Chief Joel Baker said what he likes most about the partnership with CSU is that it sets a course for success. “CSU has really reached out to the fire service and they make courses not just for education, but to help our people in their jobs. They are laying the foundation for jobs,” he said.
He added that the CSU Learning Partnership is in line with his department’s mission. “Degrees are invitations that allow you to apply for jobs. The partnership shows how much we care,” he said, adding that benefits of this partnership to Atlanta Fire Rescue staff serve as a return on their investment in education.
Overall, the fire department receives more than 60,000 calls a year. Baker serves in Airport Operations and provides fire protection, emergency medical and other emergency services to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. His division’s infrastructure includes 232 fire personnel and 49 front-line response vehicles. The team is responsible for protecting the “world’s busiest airport.”
Baker also noted that the flexibility provided by CSU makes it possible for his team members to earn their degrees.
“Online learning works. We are two days on and one day off, so it allows team members to make their schedules that fit their personal needs.”
CSU currently has more than 2,500 learning partners nationwide. For more information on CSU learning partners, visit www.columbiasouthern.edu/Partners.
