Pensacola Fire Department chosen as Partner of the Month

CSU Outreach representative Shawn Boland presented the Pensacola Fire Department with a plaque and refreshments to announce the Partner of the Month award.

The department has been a learning partner since 2008. The Pensacola Fire Department receives a 10 percent tuition discount to CSU and exclusive scholarships to its members and their family members.

Chief Dennis Allen says the partnership has been great.  “When CSU first came to us, they were kind of new to the area, new to the market and asked if we would join them. We did and it’s been nothing but good since.”

Allen said CSU helps his team reach their personal and professional goals without sacrificing their work.  “The reason that it works for us is the shift work that we have — the 24 hours on 48 hours off — makes it difficult for a lot of personnel to attend traditional university classes.”

George Foss said CSU helped prepare him for a promotion at the Pensacola Fire Department.  “I graduated with a B.S. in fire science and due to my credentials, I was able to get promoted to battalion chief.

“I was able to accomplish a higher level of education that I hope to instill in my children,” Foss explained, adding he chose CSU because of the flexibility, cost, and ease of enrolling.

Allen concluded, “CSU is the whole package.  While other universities offer those services, Columbia Southern goes beyond and markets those services.  They reach out.”
