Female deputies, corrections officers and patrol officers from South Alabama and Northwest Florida came to enhance their abilities and confidence at two Advanced Female Tactical Training sessions Oct. 22-26 in Orange Beach.
CSU and the Orange Beach (Ala.) Police Department conducted the workshops on unarmed and armed training.
Instructors Amy Foster and Dorcia Meador, who are both veterans in law enforcement, taught defensive tactics and firearm precision. The pair once again was praised by students for their knowledge, patience and providing a great learning atmosphere where the women were comfortable and eager to learn.
The first workshop, which drew about 12 attendees, provided instruction for defense tactics needed in an armed situation and focused on firearms skills. At the Orange Beach Police Training Site and Range, the women were shown techniques to hone and improve their skills.
During the second workshop, approximately 17 women threw punches, elbows and knees as they practiced close-quarters combat training. The women were taught about escort and control holds, controlled take-downs, knife defense and other methods.
