CSU, Krebs team to offer bio-solids, disinfection by-products workshops

CSU and Krebs Engineering presented workshops on Disinfection By-Products and Bio-Solids Production Handling and Disposal on Nov. 2 in Orange Beach, Ala.

About 21 people from the South Alabama area attended the two workshops and heard from guest speakers Gary Huffman and Mark Smith.

Krebs and CSU created the workshop to provide training and current insights into production, handling, and disposal of bio-solids and the broad range of factors affecting the evaluation of bio-solids drying alternatives.

“We saw this as an opportunity to continue the relationship with Krebs Engineering and once we researched the two workshop’s topics, it came to our attention that this is a training that will benefit a lot of OSHA engineers,” explained Jacquelyn Trussell of CSU Special Programs which helped organize the event.

“In addition, this event gives the attendees work credibility.”

Some of the topics the wastewater treatment operators and engineers learned about included:

  • Factors which affect the quality and characteristics of bio-solids produced at a wastewater treatment plant
  • Methods for effective handling, dewatering and disposal of bio-solids
  • Factors which lead to the creation of disinfection by-products in the treatment process and distribution system
  • Methods to reduce precursors and reduce the development of disinfection by-products in the treatment process

Attendees were given certificates of completion at the end of each seminar.
