CSU employees recently donated various supplies such as foods, soap, paper towels and other items to Foley Elementary School in Foley, Ala., for a “Fill the Backpack” drive.
Approximately a dozen large boxes were filled with items such as ramen noodles, ravioli, peanut butter, Clorox wipes, crackers and soups. Foley Elementary, which has more than 70 percent poverty rate, gratefully received the items on December 16.
“The school has identified children that need food sent home for the holidays and weekends,” said Vicki Barnes, director of compensation, benefits and recruiting at CSU. She and other employees including Kathy Cole, John Klover, Wesley Karst, Kelly Shirey, Ricky Scherffuis and Sue Butts spearheaded this latest project to aid the elementary school.
Last November, CSU donated approximately 5,000 cans of food and $1,000 to Foley Elementary. Those goods were distributed among 70 families as part of a Thanksgiving “Turkey Take-out” dinner organized by Foley Elementary and many volunteers. A portion of the $1,000 was contributed to the dinner and the remainder was placed in a family assistance fund.
