Prior learning portfolio credit granting discontinued

Effective August 31st, 2008 CSU discontinued the granting of credit through Prior Learning Portfolio (experiential learning) to new students enrolled after this date. The reason for ending the policy was a result of so few students seeking credit in this manner. The process is very involved and most students prefer to complete the coursework instead.

The majority of CSU students receive credit through academic transcripts or training that has been evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE). Such credit is treated as transfer credit and different from experiential credit granted through a portfolio.

For approximately two years CSU has allowed students enrolled prior to the August 31st date to submit a portfolio. CSU will completely discontinue the evaluation of portfolios effective December 31st, 2010. Any student enrolled prior to August 31st who still desires to submit a portfolio for evaluation must mail or ship the portfolio package to CSU by December 31st 2010.
